produced : an EP for The Color Truth

I’ve wrapped up production on the new EP by The Color Truth after a trip to LA last week for mastering with the incomparable Gavin Lurssen, and I have to say that of all the artist projects I’ve been involved in, this set of songs made the greatest leap from expectation to final result.
To start with, we had no history together, and the guys in the band had no real experience in a recording studio working with a producer… getting comfortable and familiar with each other was our initial challenge - one that, like many since then, was easily met by Zach, Frank, David and Dana.
I challenged them on their arrangements. Their lyrics. Their performances. Their focus, strategy, brand, and even their cover art. And at every turn, they surprised me with inspiration and some great results.
They’ve posted 4 of the 6 completed tracks to their myspace page, which sounds like ass, but if you’re a band you gotta be on there, so there you go. I’ll be adding a few masters to my online player, too (which, for the moment is at virb… but I’m consolidating social web presences… gotta get that moved over here), and that player sounds marginally better than the one at myspace.
I’ll post some info about the sessions and stories from the project a bit later on my Producer page. Until then, make friends with the guys on myspace and come support them at their CD release party June 13 at the Miramar Theater in Milwaukee.
